Hello, and welcome to How to Create Website. My name is Max Johnson, and I work as a professional web designer and webmaster. I started this blog to give people a very basic introduction into what it takes to create a website. This is aimed mostly at those who do not currently have their own website but are thinking of making one, either for business or personal use.
There are many different options for having a website created, ranging in price, time, effort, professionalism, functionality, and style. I’ll try to lay out the various options here in order from easiest and least commitment to hardest and most expensive, and then will go into each option in more depth in subsequent articles.
1) A free content system (ie blog or lens): The idea for this category is to sign up for one of the free services (like wordpress that I am using for this blog) and start posting content immediately. This option is best for those with little money and little need for consistent branding. Furthermore, you will not get your own domain. This fact makes this option less than idea for most businesses and any individuals that want to have their own secured home on the web. The advantages of this option are that it is easy for those who are already relatively web savvy, cheap, and fast. If you’re alright with the limitations, then this can be a great option. Check the article on free content systems for more information and a list of options for free content system services.
2) An account with a service like EasySiteBuild: This is a cheap option that gives you a lot for only a small investment of time and money. For around $10/month, (so probably less than 1/3 of the bill for the internet access you are using to read this webpage) you get your own domain name (ie. www.joesmith.com, or www.most-awesomest-website-ever.com), and a fully customizable webpage that you can edit yourself, including advanced features like blogs, shopping carts and ecommerce functionality, photo galleries, flash animations, and a guestbook your visitors can leave notes in for you.
For most people, this option is going to be by far the most economical and satisfactory. You get control over all the things you want control over, without having to worry about all the technical headaches that trying to do it all on your own or hiring a web designer would create. Furthermore, with a service like EasySiteBuild there is someone there to support you should you have any questions or trouble with the software or your website, unlike the free services like wordpress. For more information on this option, check out the article on html web editor services.
3) The final option accessible to most website beginners is to hire a web designer (like me) to do a full custom website. While this option will produce the most advanced and customized website that you can tweak until its just absolutely perfect, its also going to cost you quite a bit of money for that extra little bit of function. If you decide you want to spend the money, then the biggest issue is finding a competent and trustworthy web designer who can walk you through the whole process. Read the article on getting a custom website designed to hear more advice on finding a web designer and making your way through the process.
Ok, I hope you have enjoyed this introduction into the world of website building. Make sure you check out the other articles posted here on How To Create Website and good luck in your process to create your own website.
